Food Assistance Program Temporary food assistance for eligible low-income families and individuals is provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Eligibility is based on the economic status of all members of the household.

Everyone who lives together, buys and prepares food together is considered to be a member of the same home group.

In general, we look at your expenses, assets and income to determine what benefits you may be entitled to. Application procedureYou must complete and submit an application to determine if you are eligible to receive assistance in the form of food, Medicaid, childcare, temporary money, emergency money, etc. through MDHHS.

When submitting a request, you may need to provide information about all members in your home.

The best way to determine eligibility and apply is online using MI Bridges. Orders can be delivered by hand, mailed or faxed to our local office.

Customers are issued with a Michigan bridge card to purchase certain food products and access cash benefits at a number of retailers and ATMs across the state.
